The TNO institute – the Netherlands’ Organisation for Applied Scientific Research - is a government organization that invests in innovation. The TNO launched an internal project to create an effective on-gun fume extraction solution that could help welders and workplaces reduce welding fume exposure to below the new 1mg/m3 welding fume workplace exposure standard. The extraction experts at the TNO needed a welding gun expert to join the project. Also based in the Netherlands, Translas were the manufacturer and the genius behind many of the welding guns sold by some of the most well-known global welding brands. Translas jumped at the chance to work on the project alongside the TNO. The brief was clear; create an extraction torch that was the same size and weight as a normal welding gun, that in combination with a fume extraction system, could reduce welding fume exposure to below the new workplace exposure standard, while leaving the shielding gas completely unaffected.
After three years of research and development, Translas and the TNO achieved their goal and launched their game-changing on-gun fume extraction technology. What separates Translas from the rest?
With the 1mg/m3 workplace exposure limit for welding fume now in effect in Australia, many workplaces will be looking to on-gun fume extraction technology to solve their fume problem.
However, it’s important to ask yourself a question: do you want on-gun fume extraction, or do you want on-gun fume extraction that works?
